Author, Professor, Leading Food Safety Advocate

Darin is an author, columnist, industry consultant, editorial advisor, keynote speaker, and professor on food policy. Founder and CEO of Detwiler Consulting Group, LLC. Dr. Detwiler is an internationally recognized and respected food policy expert with nearly 30 years’ experience in shaping federal food policy, consulting with corporations, contributing thought leadership to the food industry, and addressing food safety and authenticity issues in the U.S. and abroad. In 2018, the International Association for Food Protection presented Detwiler with their Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Detwiler is also an award-winning educator with nearly 25 years of experience across many disciplines. He is an Associate Teaching Professor at Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies where he has specialized in food safety, global economics of food and agriculture, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, blockchain, and food authenticity. Detwiler is the author of “Food Safety: Past, Present, and Predictions” and “Building the Future of Food Safety Technology: Blockchain and Beyond.”

Gordon has a thirty-five-year food safety career. He is the Vice President of Food Safety & Quality for Trophy Foods – the first company in the Americas to achieve the BRCGS AA+ grade and the first ever winner of the BRC Manufacturer of the Year award.

Gordon has also worked as the Director of Compliance for Tata Global Beverages and as the Technical Director for SAI Global Certification Standards. He has worked in Food Law Enforcement for the London Borough of Waltham Forest and in academia as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in the BSc and MSc Food Science and Food Law Programmes, and as a part time tutor on the University of Lancashire MSc. Food Safety Programs.

Peer and Industry recognition includes: The IAFP Harold Barnum Industry Award, the BRCGS Approved Training Partner of the Year, The NSF Canada Food Safety Leadership Award, the OFPA Food Safety Professional Award and was honoured by the US Army with the Warrant Officer Coin of Excellence for his food safety work with the Service. He is extremely passionate about food safety.

Alexandra Emanuelli is responsible for managing all of GFSR’s interactive content including interviews with leading industry experts. She regularly works with writers and industry experts who contribute insights that are relevant, timely and interesting. As an interviewer she gets to the heart of the discussion to ask the questions that can inform us. As a moderator she will ensure an active discussion among all participants.

Felix Amiri has many years of hands-on and corporate management experience in food safety and quality assurance. He serves as the food sector chair of the Global Coalition for Sustained Excellence in Food & Health Protection (GCSE-FHP), and as the Technical Director at AFISS. Felix provides food safety, quality assurance and general operations development assistance to companies. He also teaches International Food Law and Regulations along with other courses in the post graduate certificate program in Food Safety and Quality Assurance at Conestoga College. Since 2014, Felix has led the development and implementation of the Safety, Security and Quality Assurance (SSQA) concept. Among his published works are the SSQA Implementation Manual, Food Protection Diaries, FSQA–Efficacy versus Compliance and FSQA-Commitment Plans for National & International Regulations

Her experience includes production, processing, inspection, and auditing. Dr. Ball holds graduate degrees in food science and in adult learning and leadership. She has her own company that focuses on food safety culture, leadership development, employee engagement and behaviour change. Dr. Ball is past-Chair of the Food Safety Education PDG at the International Association for Food Protection and has been a faculty advisor for food safety graduate students at Michigan State University.
